Salary calculator Australia
Convert salary between annual, monthly, fortnightly, weekly, daily and hourly amounts. Then use the take-home pay calculator to estimate what lands in your account after tax.
Example salary conversion
For a $72,000 annual salary before tax, the gross pay-cycle amounts are:
| Annual | $72,000 |
| Monthly | $6,000 |
| Fortnightly | $2,769.23 |
| Weekly | $1,384.62 |
| Daily (5 days/week) | $276.92 |
| Hourly (38h/week) | $36.44 |
These are gross amounts before tax, Medicare levy, HECS/HELP repayments and other deductions.
From salary to take-home pay
A salary conversion tells you the gross amount for each pay cycle. Take-home pay is different: it subtracts income tax and deductions such as Medicare levy, Medicare Levy Surcharge and HECS/HELP repayments.
In Australia, superannuation can also change how a salary package feels. If your salary is quoted as “including super”, your cash salary is lower than the package total.
Common salary formulas
- Monthly salary = annual salary ÷ 12
- Fortnightly salary = annual salary ÷ 26
- Weekly salary = annual salary ÷ 52
- Daily rate = annual salary ÷ 260, assuming 5 workdays per week
- Hourly rate = annual salary ÷ 1,976, assuming 38 hours per week
